Hannah and Schuyler met in school at Colorado Christian University. They're one of those couples that knew from the first moment together, that they'd found the one. So much so that they chose to honor their faith and wait until their wedding day to even share a kiss.
When Jackie and Mike first reached out to set up their engagement session, they were having some trouble narrowing down a location. She wanted something mountainy without the hour plus drive in traffic. They ended up choosing Lookout Mountain in Golden, as Jackie wanted a beautiful, woodsy feel to act as a contrast between their more formal outfits. We had booked the date over a month in advance, not knowing what the day would bring. I think you probably know where this is going.
Rachel and Tyler met in school at Vanderbilt. They’re amazing dancers, Disney fanatics, and so very much in love. I was able to shoot their gorgeous wedding day at a hidden gem of a venue in Lakewood, and alongside the amazing Julia.
It's only fitting that this subject is brought up on Memorial Day; a day to remember those who have given their lives in the pursuit of our freedom and right to live as we choose. Loss has moments of prevalence in my life, in some ways forcing me slow down. We've become old pals. It's always been there, right by my side side, popping up usually at the most inappropriate times.
Loss is the reason — the absolute, divine force — behind the art that I create. Don't get me wrong... I photograph the best times: the celebrations, the love, the new beginnings... but I also photograph because of loss. The act of capturing these personalities, families, lives, smiles... these ever-passing moments. It's therapeutic and has helped me recover during my own personal losses. It's the way that I choose to cope and to overcome immense grief.
There's not a whole lot to be said about Holly and Ryan. They're a very quiet, reserved couple at first meet, though you can tell they care very deeply for one another. Once they warm up to you, their love really shines. They're kind, goofy, romantic humans with huge hearts. As their officiant and groomsman said, "Holly and Ryan are like Ash and Pikachu; there cannot be one without the other."
Just a few weeks ago over conversation with friends, I was lamenting the fact that I've yet to shoot a snowy wedding. My wish came true when Sarah + Paul's glorious spring wedding came with a minor April snow.
Larissa and Chris are one of those couples you're convinced don't actually exist. Not only are they two of the kindest, sweetest and most caring souls, but they are adventurous, humorous, and not terrible to look at.
2017 was such an incredible year.
33 weddings
10 engagements
520 cups of coffee
3500+ miles traveled
countless editing hours
zero social life
and far too many amazing memories to quantify
I learned and gained so much through opening up my creative heart to some really amazing families.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for making 2017 so incredible.
